After-Worship Enrichment

One Sunday every month a special Pastor’s/Guest Lecturer Class is offered. During the 2012-2013 program year Pastor Freeborn has presented a course on Cults and World Religions. Presentations by the Pastor have included Christian Science, Jehovah’s Witnesses, the Mormons, as well as Judaism, Hinduism, and Buddhism. Guest lecturers included Mr. Mike Motia, a Ph.D. candidate in Theology (Harvard) who a presentation on Islam and Dr. Chris Dudley from the E.S.U. History faculty who presented on Scientology.

This summer Dr. Dudley will be presenting a series exploring the period of the Reformation (1500-1700) with a particular emphasis on Presbyterianism and what it meant to be a Church. The presentations will also look at features of Protestantism and Presbyterianism that remain with us as responses to particular historical circumstances and will end with a discussion of religious toleration and “why it’s OK to have non-Presbyterian friends.”

In addition, our former summer intern and Harvard PhD candidate, Mike Motia will be offering an adult education class following worship on “Contemporary Issues in Theology ” on Sundays when he is filling the pulpit during Rev. Freeborn’s vacation.
